"Human Thought is So Toxic ... You Have to Be Proud of That, Huh?"

In a popular science fiction novel somewhere, there's a bit of dialog about how human thought (or human language) is quarantined from translation by the galaxy because it's so toxic, followed by something to the effect of "you have to be proud of that, huh?". I cannot remember the book or section, and articles on toxic language seem to come up in search results. But I'm hoping the book's popular enough that someone knows the origin.

I go to a remote camp house with friends who are somewhat (majorly) college football obsessed. The house is in a valley and *just* outside dependable cellular coverage. If you walk 100 yards up the drive, you can get a decent data connection. Assuming good weather, is it at all practical to use a weather balloon to lift a phone/hot spot to an altitude of 100 yards and piggyback off of that connection for about 3 hours? VEVOR Manual Trolley, 1100LBS/0.5Ton Load Capacity Beam Trolley,

Because of COVID cancellations, I have $600 in my Alaska Airline wallet set to expire at the end of this year. But I moved to Canada and try my best not to fly for environmental reasons anyway. What can I do with this credit other than let it waste away? Can I donate it somehow? I could use some ideas.

Gift ideas for adult student?

I am in a fairly new (~3 month) relationship with a wonderful dude who has decided to go back to school. He is in his mid-40s, is coming out of the service industry, and will be a full-time student. His birthday is coming up, and I'd like at least part of his gift to be something useful for this new chapter in his life. What are some things that could make this transition easier, or be super useful as an adult student? Open to price points and I'll supplement with a small gift that is more personal and/or fun.
